• The Gospel of Matthew: Book of Treasures

Purpose of the Website

This website is designed to provide resources to pastors and teachers seeking to expound the Gospel of Matthew accurately and reverently. Sadly, the Gospels are often mishandled by interpreters who imagine themselves to be the primary characters of the gospel story or who view the gospels as collections of stories with a simple moral to guide daily living. Hopefully, the resources here will guide interpreters to see that the Gospel of Matthew is primarily a testimony to Jesus, the Immanuel and Savior of sinners, and a New Testament book that is as richly theological as the Gospel of John or the Epistle to the Romans. These resources explore the history, theology, and Greek text of the Gospel of Matthew under the guidance of Dr. Chuck Quarles, a scholar who has devoted decades to the study of this “book of treasures.”

Charles (Chuck) Quarles

Chuck has devoted himself to the study of the Gospel of Matthew for the last three decades. His published dissertation focused on the historical reliability of the account of Jesus’s conception and birth in Matthew and Luke. More recently, he has written five books for various audiences focusing on Matthew: a book on Matthew’s theology, a commentary on the Sermon on the Mount, a theological commentary on the Gospel of Matthew, an exegetical guide to the Greek text of Matthew, and a devotional guide to Matthew. In addition, he was written numerous scholarly articles on the exegesis, theology, historical reliability, and textual criticism of Matthew’s Gospel. He is currently writing a traditional commentary on the Greek text of Matthew’s Gospel.
